Tonight: Getting To Consciousness Raising Walk in Detroit

We are thrilled to see what tonight will hold as we start the Sustainability Summit Detroit 2015 with a Consciousness Raising Walk. The walk will start from six points a half-hour walk from Grand Circus Park, our destination. There may be some parking considerations worth planning for in advance.

What To Bring

Represent who you are, what your issues and concerns are, and your intentions for continued evolution of the Beloved Community.

  • Organization banners
  • Signs with your message – these can be on a stick held up, or even a cloth patch pinned to clothing.
  • A candle for the vigil as sunset moves to night
  • Water and perhaps a snack
  • Cameras

Starting Locations

The actions we take to manifest our intention require sharing and presence to begin.

The Consciousness Raising Walk will open the Sustainability Summit beginning from six locations close to downtown Detroit.

Our walk together in localized gatherings merging together at Grand Circus Park will be visual and symbolic. Each of our neighborhoods has factors affecting its sustainability, issues of today and the past influence our community greatly. Sustainability Summit United Nations International Day of Peace

Emerging the Beloved Community of Detroit

Modeling the United Nations celebration of International Day of Peace, including a consciousness raising march and a three day summit. The UN celebration recognizes peace is integral for raising consciousness of human rights and social justice in communities and around the world. The issues of Detroit are globally recognized human rights issues. Detroit holds the potential to dialogue, envision and be a voice/platform for all of the world to hear – a fulcrum for a shift of paradigm. The Sustainability Summit aims to cocreate through vision, conscious dialogue and solutionary actions that alters our paradigm from surviving to prosperous collective interdependent sustainability.

50 Years Since Selma – MLK Day in Detroit

The Struggle for Democracy, Peace and Social Justice Continues

On Jan. 19, 2015 we will hold the 12th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Rally & March beginning at Noon in the sanctuary of the Central United Methodist Church. This year’s theme is “From Selma to Detroit: The Struggle for Democracy, Peace and Social Justice Continues.”

We are recognizing the valiant contributions of the struggle for voting rights by Dr. King, the founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and others who paved the way for the advances gained during the 1960s and 1970s.

Nonetheless, today we are facing the most profound challenge to the status of civil rights, human rights and economic justice since the martyrdom of Dr. King in 1968. In the state of Michigan fundamental rights to a living wage, collective bargaining, municipal pensions and public services have been eroded.
