What To Bring

Represent who you are, what your issues and concerns are, and your intentions for continued evolution of the Beloved Community.

  • Organization banners
  • Signs with your message – these can be on a stick held up, or even a cloth patch pinned to clothing.
  • A candle for the vigil as sunset moves to night
  • Water and perhaps a snack
  • Cameras

Starting Locations

The actions we take to manifest our intention require sharing and presence to begin.

We gather at 5:30pm (or sooner) bringing gear together for the walk.  We raise awareness through realizing our localized issues are interdependent when we converge,

Walkers at each location will launch at 5:50pm. Please assist those arriving so everyone is ready to walk at that time. If arriving at 6:00 go to Cass Park and walk with the group passing through there from the North West starting location. Any later times go directly to Grand Circus Park – all walkers should be converging by 6:30. You may not be aware of parking considerations, please plan accordingly.

Reaching Convergence and Interdependence

Through music, poetry, and sharing we consider our current society and its impacts on our lives, our communities, our nation, and our world. We can begin from an awareness of self and realize the centered approach this offers in a world of interdependence. Each of us knows some but not all of the conditions of others, we share to bring unity.

We gather fully aware of the loss of thousands of lives on September 11, 2001, which has become a rallying call for peace across the United States. We also acknowledge that the International Day of Peace is celebrated world-wide on September 21. It is time for a declaration proclaiming we are ready for and empowering Peace 4 Detroit, (which is our Twitter account). As you share photos and videos, please use the tag #DetSummit2015 and @Peace4Detroit.

As night approaches the Detroit Light Brigade will illuminate several messages with the assistance of those attending. We will be welcoming those gathering for the Vigil for Peace and Diplomacy in Detroit.

  1. CULTIVATE PEACE
  2. PEACE IN OUR LIFETIME
  3. PEACE IS OUR INHERITANCE
  4. REVEALING OUR INTERDEPENDENCE
  5. SEAL THE DEAL WITH IRAN

Parking Considerations To Consider

The real and rumored issues about changes from the Detroit Parking Authority and a sharp spike up in cars being booted were discussed at City Council session Tuesday. The authority has switched from “pay per space” to “pay per plate”. They say this enables people to relocate during their parking visit to any space within the zone they are parking in, zones are designated on the payment station. It is also worth noting if you owe six parking tickets or more your car will likely be booted. That makes it imperative for those with excess tickets to use parking lots where they are not checking your violation history. Visit the Park Detroit website.

Your parking can be paid in advance through the Park Detroit smart phone app [ Android | iPhone ]. Minimum charge is $1 through the app, and the application offers a way to stock funds in an account to pay for parking. This account balance process minimizes the service charges paid if you pay into it each time. Example put $50 in then pull from that balance with each parking trip.

NOTE: If you start paying using the meter you’ll have to continue in that manner. Starting payment by the phone app will require continuing in that manner if adding time.

If this is too confusing we highly recommend considering the half hour walk, or bus. There are starting locations with parking that is not metered, though not all. Car pooling to minimize downtown parking is a great way to resist high price parking. There are buses as well, fare by DDOT bus is $1.50. There is a DDOT bus app [ Android | iPhone ] to check times on routes and know when the next bus is arriving. There’s also TextMyBus – text message your intersection to 50464 to know when buses are arriving.
